Life is like a camera
Focus on what is important
Capture the good times
Develop the negatives
and if things don't work out.....
Just take another shot.

See that plant stake in front of Miss Kittie? I very carefully put it there so no one would step on the hosta that is coming up. I guess she thought it marked the spot for her to rest in the shade since it was 80 degrees today!

I checked my 365 pages from 2009 and found that the daffodils were in full bloom around April 20. It looks like we are a little ahead of schedule. Maybe it is due to the snow insulation we had this winter.

I had been looking for a camera that I could carry on my bike that was a little more versatile than just your regular "pocket" camera. I found this one on clearance and then an extra 10% off because it was a display model. So far, I'm pretty satisfied! Sierra needed a new camara also, so I'll give her my other one.

I decided to try planting some tomato plants quite a bit earlier than usual. We will see if this water teepee works!

I decided today to make a little spring of my own. I put this pot of violas in a warm sheltered spot. Violas have always reminded me of little smiling faces! I'm sure they will be fine until other flowers can take over!

I downloaded all my photos from last night. Here's my favorite of everyone in our little concert group. From the left is Beth, Dawn, Tena, Julie, and Tracy.

I went to The Black Eyed Peas concert last night with 5 girlfriends. It was a great show and definitely worth EVERY penny!

Tena, a friend at work, just got a new puppy. Zoey is her name and 12 year old Brady loves her!

I am sorry that I forgot last fall to bring this sculpture inside for the winter. Kristin made it when she was in high school. It now has a crack and some of the glaze has flaked off.

Rich has already started on the wood pile for next winter! That seems crazy since the snow is not completely gone yet.

Hoping to get a head start on my garden, I bought some caladium tubers yesterday along with some peat pots and soil. Today, I planted them in their pots, most of them were already starting to send out shoots. All together, I planted 4 different varieties of caladiums, 32 total. Hopefully, they will all flourish and add this beautiful color to the garden this summer!

Welcome Spring! Here's what we woke up to this morning. Nearly 7 inches of snow in this spot. It's hard to find a sheltered spot to measure and the wind is blowing hard and causing drifting. This is the same planter box as yesterday's photo.

I got another planter box cleaned out. This one has some perennials in it, including day lilies, oriental lilies, and verbena. It looks like they were starting to grow under the snow.

I continue to clean out my planter boxes. Charlie decided he needed to sit in this one, just like he knew that I would be there soon.

Maggie gave me these gloves as a Christmas gift. It was time to get them out and put them to good use!

This is a photo I got from velonews.com. There is a great article there about the collegiate races at DePauw last weekend HERE. Sierra is second the left. The total Marian University women's team from the left is Anna S., Sierra, Anna Y., Becca, Jackie, Megan, and Sinead.

Today, the snow was completely gone from the driveway! There are still drifts in the ditches but they are quickly melting. I decided to start clearing the planter boxes. I got this one clean and then covered it with cardboard to keep the cats out. They were right there watching my every move ready to use the nice giant litter box!

They tell us the snow of officially gone, it was 94 days with snow on the ground-almost a record but not quite. Of course, now we have flooding. It is not bad here but the rivers are not expected to crest until tomorrow. A little to the north of us, ice jams are causing quite a problem and people are evacuating just to be safe.

Kristin sent me this photo of the Muse concert that she and Tyler went to last night in Chicago. I got the tickets for them as a Christmas gift. At the time, I thought that the seats were not very good but she was thrilled with them and that is all that matters! They drove up early and spent the day in Chicago, went to the concert and then were home by 3AM.

Someone tried to break into our truck recently. We are not really sure when or where it happened. It looks like they tried to put a knife into the lock. Now, we'll have to make sure our remotes always work because a key no longer fits into this lock and it is the only one on all 4 doors.

A little more reminiscing of our trip last week: a plate full of boiled shrimp from Snoopy's!

Sierra sent me this photo today. I'm thinking that she and Adam are off to a 3-D movie. I wonder which one, I will have to find out.

Since I decided to go on RAGBRAI again this year, I started my training while in Texas. Here's my bike against a piece of driftwood on the beach. Charlie is enjoying some freedom in the background.

Today, we watched some of our videos from our trip. We found this snowy egret at Snoopy's Pier on Saturday. He would shake his yellow feet underwater in the water plants until the fish appeared and then he would snatch them to eat. It was fascinating to watch.

We left Corpus Christi last evening at 7PM after a last dinner at Snoopy's. We dropped G'ma off in Kansas at 8:30AM and were back at home by 2:30PM. When I got home, I emailed this photo to Don. We ran into him unexpectedly while Rich was windsurfing. We haven't seen him for 8 years! He is still looking strong while windsurfing at age 86!

Today was forecast to be cloudy so we left the hotel and went to the USS Lexington museum. While there, the sun came out and so we hurried out to Bird Island. The wind was blowing so Rich wanted to try windsurfing again. Neither of us has sailed for at least 10 years. He rented at the concession and had a great time! Now, I'm going to try to talk the girls into a trip back here next winter.

Today, we went to Hans Suter Wildlife park in the hopes of finding some birds close up. It was a very nice park with a boardwalk out through the marsh to Oso Bay. The birds were out too far for some good photos but I did see some Roseate Spoonbills on an island out in the bay. Then we went back to the beach to ride and let the dogs play. When we went back through Port Aransas, we stopped at a birding area and we found the Roseate Spoonbills that I had wanted to see. Aren't they beautiful?

Today, we spent the most time on Padre Island. We went to see all the changes at Bird Island since we had last visited in 2002. We drove 17 miles south on the beach. Rich and I took turns riding my bike and Charlie got to be off his leash while running with us. Chase played in the ocean with his ball and they were both very tired by the end of the day.

Today, one of our first stops was Snoopy's Pier. Snoopy's is a family favorite from our windsurfing days. Kristin and Sierra got their love of shrimp there. Birds are always plentiful and I love to take pictures of the pelicans. This one turned out especially great, I think.

We left today for Texas, stopping in Kansas to pick up the G'ma. The trip went well and I enjoyed emailing photos of our favorite stopping places to Kristin and Sierra along the way. We made it to our destination and what a surprise to find for breakfast - a state of Texas waffle!

Look what arrived in the mail today. Not just one Oakes Daylilies catalog but two! They must think I really need some more lilies OR maybe spring is on it's way.
